'From Painting to Graphic Art Lautrec' Seminar Will Be Held

The seminar titled "From Painting to Graphic Art Lautrec", where Uludağ University Fine Arts Faculty Painting Department faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülser Aktan will be the speaker, will be held online on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 11:00. The artistic and cultural texture of Paris in the late 19th century offered an experimental environment open to new forms of expression. During this period, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, who combined his mastery in painting with lithography and poster design, went down in art history not only as a painter but also as one of the founding figures of graphic art. This seminar titled "From Painting to Graphic Art Lautrec" examines the transformative effect of the artist's accumulation in the field of plastic arts on visual communication design.

In this seminar, Toulouse-Lautrec’s contributions to graphic art since his introduction to lithography, the simplified forms he used in his posters, the typography-painting relationship, and the unique style he developed inspired by Japanese printmaking will be examined in detail. The artist’s works have shaped not only the cultural memory of Paris but also today’s graphic design.
